Dog & cat foods – which is best for your pet?

The links below are just two of many that review the bewildering number of dry and canned dog and cat foods available to consumers. Ordered by USPS or UPS shipment, however, the costs can be prohibitive. Share your opinion, with special emphasis upon foods that can be purchased locally in Vicksburg.

  1. The dry dog food favorites emailed to us are as follows:

Chicken Soup for the Dogs Lovers Soul from Vicksburg Farm Supply.

Premium Edge Skin and Coat from Warrenton Feed

Canidae All Life Styles ordered from

A comment was also made that Blue, Innova, Orijen, Solid Gold, Nutra and Canidae are all good.

  2. Good food promotes long term good health!!! Worth the extra it costs which is not that much since the dogs eat less of good quality food..

  3. I have tried every brand of premium dog food, but my 2 little terriers are very spoiled and “picky” eaters who like to eat only Purina Moist & Meaty Chopped Burger, which has a primary ingredient of real beef. For snacks they are wild about fresh baby carrots, Meaty Bones, Original Milk Bones, and beef rawhide munchy sticks. I give them cooked chicken and cooked beef steak pieces, which only the younger one will eat. For some reason, the older dog refuses any kind of meat. Both refuse any kind of canned dog food. All of their food comes from the local Kroger and is not expensive. My dogs are a comfort and joy and worth all of the trouble caring for them and keeping them in excellent health.

  6. Jon Pen, tht is really bad food for your pets. they all love the crappy stuff but like humans they need to eat a good diet. try a good brand of dog food and put a little chicken broth on it or boiled chicken. They will eat it.
I am one to at all cost avoid health issues with my dogs. I have one little shih tzu mix that is 19 years old and show no signs of arthritis. etc.
Organic kelp and other immune boosters are a key.
try a small bag of premium all natural or holistic food. makes a difference…. Solid Gold is a another good food.

  7. Debbie, I do not feel I am giving my dogs bad food and “crappy stuff” to eat, and the vets Dr. Cordes and Dr. Ruggles at Vicksburg Animal Hospital have both told me what I give them is fine. I have taken them there for checkups every six months since birth and they have never been sick a day in their lives and have always been given a clean bill of health. One is 6 and the other is 10 years old. Dr. Valentine, a former vet there, who also personally had rat terriers as his pets, concurred with what I fed my dogs and praised the excellent health of mine. He particularly liked the fact that my terriers ate baby carrots as their favorite snack.
If it ain’t broke, I’m not going to try to fix it as I want only what is best for my dogs’ diet. So far so good and I’ll leave well enough alone.

  8. I’d say dog food for your dog and cat food for cats.Tryed to switch it up and both knew the diffrence right away.I also recommend you don’t feed your pet anti-freeze not pretty.Have a nice day.

  9. Tight britches you need to pull your pants up higher.

  11. Unquestionably imagine that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the net the easiest thing to bear in mind of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed whilst folks consider worries that they just do not understand about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also outlined out the entire thing with no need side-effects , folks could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
