Junior Auxiliary playground – a community project

The Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg is planning to build a state-of-the-art playground near the Art Park on Catfish Row. The entire community is being asked to help with the fundraising and to supply the labor to build the playground.

Believe it or not, the project will be completed in only five days, during the week of April 2-6, 2008.

The Junior Auxiliary invites you to join with them in supporting the project with a tax-deductible donation and/or by volunteering your services for the five build days.  There will be a permanent plaque at the playground to recognize component buyers and contributors of $1,000 or more.

A representative of the JA indicates that they will need 1,000 volunteers over the five days. Construction skills, though of great value, are not mandatory, for they have places for everyone.  They will provide childcare at the Jackson Street Community center during the days of the build so that volunteers can help serve food, check people in at the volunteer table, or even help with childcare.  If you would like to sign up, e-mail your contact information (name, address, phone numbers) and you will be contacted to determine specific days and times you may be of help. It is not necessary that you work the entire week; even an hour or two will be of benefit to the project. Details and contact information are on their website, www.playgroundatcatfishrow.org.

  1. This is a very exciting project. It is also one that anyone can be involved in. You can donate time, talent or treasure to this one.

It is 100% donation supported. They need everything from duct tape to WD40 to carriage bolts to lumber to tools.

    Check out the website:

If you think you have some spare duct tape or whatever to help click the donations link and then the materials link in the first paragraph.

This is what Vicksburg is all about, community involvement for the betterment of the community.

  2. I am over the donated materials and I will have to say that we have had some Hardware stores step up and help out alot. One of the big things on the donated list is lumber and drill bits. If anyone can spare these things please contact the playground chair.

Like David said this is a huge project for Vicksburg and is going to take alot of coming together, which I know we can do.
