Bulldogs crush Rebels

In spirit, anyway. The Mississippi State Bulldogs pulled out a memorable come-from-behind football victory Friday afternoon in Starkville. The Dawgs scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter of the game to best their rivals from Oxford 17-14. Does the victory foretell changes at the schools? For example… Will Sylvester Croom become the winningest coach in MSU history? Will Ed Ogeron survive the wrath of Ole Miss students and alumni? Will 0-8 in SEC conference play become the norm for the boys in blue? Will MSU be SEC West champs next year?

You may wish to share your own thoughts about the game, its outcome, and the consequences (if any). Foul language is forbidden, please.

  1. All I can say is, WOOOOHOOOOO BULLDOGS! The party school went down!!!!

  2. Let me tell you I went to southern miss and we beat both teams. But it made my day when Ole Miss lost this one but I can honestly tell you thier alums have a right to be angry at their former coach. U should’ve listen to the angry alums who want change all across the board.

  3. I really feel sorry for those poor ol Rebs (hahahahahahahahahahaha). No, no, not really. The Reb fans act like snots, especially when they win – they can lose every game with the Bulldogs far as I’m concerned.

  4. USM has fired Jeff Bowers and the word is he is interviewing with Ole Miss. I can’t believe Southern got rid of him. I think he’s great!!

  5. Ole Miss is looking at Houston Nutt of Arkansas, too, if Nutt is fired.

  6. As a USM alum I can tell u that Bower is out. But the story is conflicted. Was he fired or did he resigned? I can tell you his football players are disappointed. They didn’t like the news. Bower ran a successful football program I might add. But watching the sports news on this one there the facts are unclear.
And it has been confirmed too that Houstun Nutt has been hired by Ole Miss as of today.

  7. Interesting statistics… Cost per football game “win” in the SEC:

Coach Cost/Win Wins College Annual Salary

    Nick Saban $583,333 6 Alabama $3,500,000
    Urban Meyer $406,250 8 Florida $3,250,000
    T Tuberville $371,429 7 Auburn $2,600,000
    Ed Orgeron $301,667 3 Ole Miss $ 905,000
    S Spurrier $291,667 6 SC $1,750,000
    P Fulmer $262,500 8 TN $2,100,000
    Mark Richt $222,222 9 Georgia $2,000,000
    Les Miles $185,000 10 LSU $1,850,000
    S Croom $156,667 6 Miss St $ 940,000
    Houston Nutt $150,000 7 Arkansas $1,050,000
    Rich Brooks $142,857 7 Kentucky $1,000,000

Now, imagine if all that money had been spent on a worthwhile cause!

  8. There is one humorous aspect to State’s win, best illustrated by the words of the Post’s sports writer Sean Murphy. In his column, he blames Ole Miss’ loss to Coach Ogeron’s decision to go for a first down rather than punting on a fourth down at midfield. That turned the entire game around, according to Murphy, firing up the Bulldogs, who proceeded to score points. Murphy and others give no credit at all to the Bulldog offense, who came through when they had to. The Post is an Ole Miss newspaper, so you can expect they will make excuses for “their” team. Still, rather humorous logic, don’t you think?
