Dog fighting “bust”

Monday’s Post headlined a story about a dog fighting “bust” at the 8500 block of Highway 27. The site was stumbled upon by two game wardens; the Sheriff’s office and the VWHS were notified, and twelve pit bulls were rescued. The site featured a dog fighting arena, “training” devices, and evidence of past fights. No one had been arrested in the case as of that date. Interestingly, the story indicated that there had been only one conviction in the past for dog fighting in Warren County, a 2004 felony in which the felon’s sentence was “suspended.”

If you have any information that might help locate these cruel misfits, please call the Sheriff’s Dept. Your comments otherwise are invited.

  1. There is a new DA in town. Once these human animals are caught a suspended sentence might include a noose.

  2. Yes and he is an animal lover.!!!

  3. Today’s (Saturday) Post has another front page story regarding still more chained pit bulls being discovered. Hopefully, the responsible parties will be found, anvils tied to their necks, and the lot of them tossed off the old Mississippi River bridge, all with a cheering public invited to attend.

  4. Being very active in the “dog world”, we have known there are dog fighting rings here in Vicksburg for many years. The problem has been catching them. They would move from place to place and people were involved that you would be shocked to hear about…one reason why it has been a well kept secret.

I can only hope this is the first of many that will be found and that they are given the most harsh penalties the law will allow. Personally, I would like to see the owners thrown in the ring with the pit bulls! The training tactics which they use to teach these dogs to fight are horribly cruel. They use kittens and puppies to teach them to kill and then graduate to the older dogs, just to name a couple. Beware of placing ads in the newspaper, “free to good homes”.

  5. This is nothing knew to those of us in the dog world. Pitbull fighting a has been around for a long long time.I cringe when I see Free To A GOOD HOME ads in the newspaper. FREE bait some of them.
The problem now is catching the culprits of this cruel torture. In rescue everyday there an many pits that have been fought and rescued and people pleading for donations for medical care and help. This is a daily occurance. The pictures of the dogs will make you sick.
Some pits not used for fighting have been horribly tortured as in the case of Mercy.
People do not have a clue of the abuse and torture of innocent animals. that occurs daily in everyone’s home town. Rescue is about the good the bad and the ugly.

  6. Who are the owners of the property where the dogs were seized and why hasn’t that been publicized? If it was a legal matter of privacy, we would have heard nothing of Mr. Vick until now.

  7. Big money in dog fighting. The pots are huge. You have to wonder who is gettting a piece of the action. This type of crime will continue. people see nothing wrong with it. Stakes are high and it is easy money. Its just a dog you know tht kind of mentality. makes me sick.

  8. Anne, that is the reason why we must fight for heavier punishment for animal abuse. The laws we have in Mississippi now are not much more than a slap on the wrist. We need laws that will put enough “fear” into people that they will not want to risk cruelty to animals because the penalities will be so great! Like all of our laws, they are only good if they are enforced!

People are tired of seeing criminals get away with a slap on the wrist and set free. After you see enough of the horrible crimes that these people commit and see them walk away with hardly any punishment, it makes our law enforcement officers lose heart because they feel all the work they do is for naught. This country needs to have strict punishment laws which need to be heavily enforced.

This doesn’t just go for animals either. It goes for children and adults who are abused. People who abuse animals will also abuse people. You can bet on that!

  9. Nice blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it
from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple adjustements would really make my blog stand out.
Please let me know where you got your design. Bless you

  10. If you are going for best contents lijke me, just

    contents, thanks

  11. I was wondering if you ever considered changing the page
layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what
youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content
so people could connect with it better. Youve got
an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures. Maybe you could
    space it out better?
